Okay. This review will sound like I'm gushing - because I am. This is without exception the nicest backpack I have ever seen, and I honestly would give it ten stars if I could. The features are more than impressive.- First, the leather is very nice quality. All of the major surfaces are covered in nice, soft genuine leather.- Where to go from there?- Compartments: There are three main compartments that are roomy enough to hold whatever you need; from laptop and books to water bottles, snacks, electronics - it's large enough to hold a LOT, but not so large that it will feel like you're carrying luggage on your shoulder. There are no less than 12 compartments of different sizes within the three larger ones - not including spaces for credit cards and pens. There is room for EVERYthing.- Zippers: They're something that is more important than I (or you) might think at first. It is important for zippers to be good quality and slide easily - and NOT require two hands to zip. I want to be able to grasp a pull and unzip or zip with one hand, and these all do exactly that. They are substantial, very high quality, and - get this - there are TEN zippers in all the different places on this backpack. I'm truly impressed.- Padding: If you've used backpacks for a long time, you know that they eventually feel heavy and hurt your shoulders or back. The straps have good padding themselves, but this one also has thick, quality padding that feels and behaves like memory foam that I've never seen before. There are two pads at the top, one on either side, to pad your shoulders, AND there is one that basically acts as a lumbar support. It's a fantastic feature.- Traveling Convenience: I travel extensively for work and this has become my new carry-on. One feature that I require in any backpack (or carry-on) is the ability to slip it securely over the handle of my rolling suitcase. The whole lumbar-type pad does exactly that, and being as wide as it is, it stays put on your suitcase.- Handle: The handle at the top of the backpack is substantial and has a thick pad that makes it comfortable to pick up, even when it's packed heavy.- One more small thing that speaks to the high quality: One annoyance that I have about most backpacks, like those for hiking, are all the dangling straps. (I admit it's not a huge deal, but looks sloppy when you're not actively using them.) Every backpack has adjustable straps so that they fit your shoulders better. This one is no different, but there's a thoughtful feature that I've never seen before - the small straps that you use to adjust the shoulder straps have a small elastic cuff to hold the extra length. They don't dangle and it looks nice or professional. I know that's not a huge deal, but it's a nice example of the great quality of this backpack.I can promise you that if you are looking for a high-quality leather backpack, you will not find a nicer one than this Alpine Swiss Olsen backpack. I'm entirely (as you can tell) impressed.
