Writing for Television (Creative Essentials)If you want to get an impressive insight into the industry and routes in to make your work competitive then buy this book now. It is so incredibly refreshing to read a book about screenwriting by someone who has actually made excellent produced TV and numerous works. "Writing For Television Series, Serials and Soaps" is written by an award winning TV drama producer with 20 years of experience - and it massively shows. Every page has history and experience behind it; every description and suggestion has the reality of the industry obvious in every statement. Most books on screenwriting are hypothetical -- this is the actual experience explained and shown with great clarity and verve. In terms of the book itself, it is written exceptionally clearly and in a very sparse and visual way -- the book enacts how the best screenplays are (love the white space!). It means it is packed full of great information but is easy to access this knowledge as the text isn't dense, it's very clear with bold, bullet points and specific paragraphs to force home points.I have been a screenwriter for many years, but have gained a vast amount from this book. So much of it chimes with my experience -- and it is a fantastic fast-track for any developing or new writer. Everything is backed up and codified. It includes actual scripts and notes from productions - again, re-enforcing screenwriting as a actual production rather than than a hypothetical exercise. The sections on agents and writers schemes also guide how to get work in the right hands at the right times.Highly recommended to any screenwriters or anyone who wants to be in the industry. Buy it - you won't be disappointed.
